Elysium

from Elysium by XYBeautiful

lyrics

once I read about a mansion on a hill
the old familiar hymns, of course I knew them well.
imagining in song a heaven far away,
a hope to look toward when life and limb decay.

imperfect humankind wrapped up in fairy tales
blood salvation bought by lash and pounded nails.
but did our newfound life equate to such a perfect sum
we can cast away elysium?

elysium

are we so transcendant now that we've forever come
at last to here cast off the promise of elysium?
hope we had at least, and well we knew of human fault;
but as we sloughed the past we kept no virtue to exalt.

we tore the veil of heaven back to question 'why'
but behind the clouds we only found an empty sky
now we've repealed our skyward gaze, so what will we become?
exiled from elysium?

elysium

fire, the skies are lit afire
aurora borealis and the glint of razor wire
repeal our skyward gaze, and what will we become-
exiled from elysium?
